Safeguarding Overview

Mount Pleasant Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. All staff, including volunteers, are subject to a rigorous DBS check.

Children’s awareness of their own personal behaviour and safety is regularly updated by a programme of whole school assemblies, lessons, visits and visitors.  The school firmly believes that where positive relationships are made between home and school, the children benefit.

We follow the procedures set out by the East Riding Safeguarding Children Partnership  (Policies) and in school.

As a school, we are part of the local authority's Operation Encompass programme. Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of normal school hours and that might have had an impact on a child attending our premising the following day. This information will be shared at the earliest opportunity between Monday and Friday and, when a incident occurs on a Friday, Saturday or a Sunday, the police will contact us the following Monday.

Support Services:

Welfare Drop Ins

At Mount Pleasant Junior School, we pride ourselves on the wonderful relationship that is built up between our children and members of staff. The Safeguarding and Welfare Team are looking to establish as many different avenues as possible for the children we work with to speak to a trusted adult if they are worried or concerned about anything.

We have introduced two drop in style sessions where children can come to the ELSA room to speak to Mr Sage or Mrs Gedney about anything that is concerning them at home or at school.

Please see the poster for more information. We will be introducing more sessions (some of these for parents) in the upcoming weeks.
