Admissions

If you are moving to the Market Weighton area, or considering a school place for your child, we would be delighted to welcome you to Mount Pleasant CE VC Junior School. We know that starting or changing schools is an important step, and we want to make the process as smooth as possible.

We serve families in Market Weighton and the surrounding villages of Sancton, Goodmanham and Londesborough. If you are unsure of your catchment area, please visit the East Riding School Finder, where you can check by entering your postcode.

Types of Applications

There are two types of admissions:

  • Normal admissions – applying for a place in Year 3 at the start of junior school

  • In-year admissions – applying for a place in another year group, or at any point during the school year (for example, if you are moving house or transferring from another school)

The admissions authority for Mount Pleasant is East Riding of Yorkshire Council. All applications are managed by the Council’s Admissions Team.

Normal Admissions (starting Year 3)

Applications for a place in Year 3 should be made directly to your home local authority by the published deadline. Late applications are considered after those submitted on time and may mean places are no longer available.

If you live in East Riding, further details about admissions, deadlines, appeals and the application process are available at www.eastriding.gov.uk/apply-for-a-school-place. If you live outside East Riding, you should apply through your own local authority.

Please note: there is no supplementary information form required when applying for a place at Mount Pleasant.

In-Year Admissions

In-year applications should be made through the local authority’s coordinated admissions scheme. These applications can be submitted no earlier than one term before the place is required, and it is recommended that you apply at least 20 school days before you would like your child to start.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. Proof of residence may be required. Decisions are usually communicated within 10 school days, though in some cases this may take longer.

Further information, including application forms and details of the appeals process, can be found at www.eastriding.gov.uk/school-admissions.

Who Decides?

Admissions decisions are made by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, taking into account the school’s capacity in each year group and the number of pupils already on roll.
