Uniform
Mount Pleasant Active School Uniform
As part of our ongoing commitment to OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning), we want to ensure that every child is able to participate fully in our exciting and inclusive play provision. We believe that no child should be limited in their movement, comfort or ability to explore simply because of what they’re wearing.
For example, many children love to hang upside down, climb, run, jump and generally move freely in ways that ordinary uniforms can restrict. We want all of our pupils to have clothing that supports active, adventurous play throughout the day. For these reasons, our school has made the pledge to support the Active Uniform Campaign. You can find out more about this initiative here: https://activeuniform.org/ You may have also seen a fellow OPAL school, Grimes Dyke Primary School in Leeds, on Good Morning Britain recently showcasing their move to active uniforms. We expect all children to come to school wearing our active uniform, consisting of:
- Plain or school-logo, light-blue polo shirt
- Plain or school-logo, navy-blue sweatshirt, cardigan or PE hoodie
- Plain black, comfortable trousers, joggers, leggings or shorts
- Black trainers or suitable black shoes for active play
- Normal school unifrom items may still be worn (for example, black school trousers or skirts and blue summer dresses during warmer months).
For clarity:
- Children can wear normal school uniform or active uniform. We appreciate that some parents have already purchased items for September. We are going to have a hybrid of both uniforms in September.
- Children are to continue to come to school in their normal upper body uniform as usual with the option for plain black active wear on their bottom halves (blue polo shirt, navy sweatshirt, cardigan or hoodie).
- Girls may wear cycling shorts under skirts or dresses should they wish. However, we will not be permitting the wearing of short lycra or short cycling shorts as part of our active uniform on their own.
- Smart school shoes can be worn, but we feel trainers are more suitable in all weathers as they can be cleaned/washed more easily.
As we will be going outside for our play in all weather, children will also need:
- Wellies for outdoor play on the field during wet weather
- A waterproof jacket and/or warm winter jacket (optional waterproof trousers)
Our PE kit will remain the same as it always has been and children can come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. Their PE kit will continue to consist of:
- Plain or school-logo, white t-shirt
- Plain black shorts or leggings (plain black joggers in winter months)
- Plain or school-logo, navy-blue sweatshirt or PE hoodie
This change means children will be ready for movement and outdoor learning at all times - not just during PE lessons. We appreciate your support in making our school an environment where every child can move, play and learn freely.
All uniform and PE kit should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
