Chair of Governors Welcome
At Mount Pleasant, we are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who serve as our school governors. Their role is to support the headteacher and staff, while also helping to raise standards and ensure the very best education for our children.
The headteacher leads the day-to-day running of the school and plans its strategic direction. Governors work alongside the headteacher to ensure these plans are achieved, offering both challenge and support. Their focus is on the long-term vision and priorities of the school, rather than day-to-day operations.
What We Do
Governors fulfil their role by attending three full governing body meetings each year, as well as a number of committee meetings. Our main committees are:
-
Leadership and Management Committee – covering finance, health and safety, and other key aspects of school leadership.
-
Curriculum and Data Committee – focusing on school performance, curriculum development and priorities for improvement.
Governors are also involved in:
-
Promoting high standards of achievement
-
Planning the long-term future of the school
-
Setting the school’s aims, values and ethos
-
Overseeing the budget
-
Appointing staff
Other committees, such as Appeals, Pupil Discipline and Performance Review, meet as needed.
Link Roles
Each governor also has a link responsibility, focusing on a specific area of school life. This allows governors to deepen their understanding and support ongoing development in their chosen area.
Who We Are
Our governing body is made up of people from a range of backgrounds who bring valuable knowledge and experience. They represent the church, the local authority, parents, school staff and the wider community through co-opted governors. Together, they play a vital role in helping our school to thrive.
