Collective Worship

At Mount Pleasant, collective worship is a vital part of school life. It nurtures the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils and reflects the values and ethos of our school as a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school. We provide daily worship that is broadly Christian in nature, rooted in our vision and values.

Celebrating Our Values

Our core Christian values of Friendship, Trust and Forgiveness are central to our worship and woven through everyday school life. Worship gives pupils the opportunity to reflect on these values and consider how they can live them out both in school and in the wider community.

Prayers are shared each day, either our school prayer or prayers written by the children. This helps pupils to pause, reflect on the theme of the day, and connect with their own faith journey.

Building Community

Collective worship brings the whole school together to celebrate, reflect and strengthen our sense of belonging. It is a time to share experiences, listen to different perspectives and deepen respect for one another.

Nurturing Spiritual Growth

Through worship, pupils are given opportunities for reflection, discussion and exploration of their own beliefs and values. This may be through Bible stories, music, thought-provoking questions or quiet contemplation. These experiences help children to grow in understanding of themselves, their place in the world and their relationship with God.

A Variety of Worship

Over the course of each week, children experience different styles of worship, which may include:

  • Whole school worship led by staff or visitors

  • Class or key stage worship

  • Worship linked to key events in the Christian calendar

  • Opportunities for pupils to plan and lead worship themselves

We also warmly welcome parents and members of the wider community to join us for special services and celebrations.

Celebration Worship

Each Friday, in an extended afternoon slot, the school joins together to celebrate the children’s achievements both at home and at school. This is a really special collective worship where as celebrate, as a community, the LOVE we have for one anothers success.

Roots and Fruits

Led weekly by Mr Madgwick, children join together to learn about the Christian value of the half term. Pupils get oppportunities to talk about their thoughts and have discussions about big questions as a whole school community.

Singing Worship

Children get the opportunity to learn a range of songs from different cultures and genres through our singing worship. We see the importance of joining together in a group to sing and leave with a great grin on our faces.

Open the Book

We are lucky enough to have some wonderful volunteers from All Saint's Church, who take the time to visit our school and retell Bible Stories. Year 6 children support them by acting out these stories, to make them engaging to the other pupils in the school.

Class Worship

The children work hard each half term to produce interesting and engaging worships on topics of their choice linking to our Christian Values or special events in the Christian calendar. Pupils are responsible for planning and leading the worships independently; and often write their own prayers too.

House Worship

Each half-term, House Captains get the opportunity to lead a House Worship where they launch new initiaitves and celebrate being a team 'family.

Eco Worship

Every Autumn term each class elects an Eco rep who will form an important part of our whole school Eco Council. We have achieved our Green Flag Award and have lots of ideas about how to develop this further through our love of the outdoors, conservation and our passion for looking after the environment.

Eco reps have a very important role to play in promoting our sustainable schools agenda; helping to conserve energy, litter monitoring, caring for the school grounds, and developing ideas for fundraising projects to highlight Eco awareness.

Faith Leader Visit

We have developed good links with different faith leaders from our local community.

ALWAYS Awards

Our 'Always Children' are chosen by their class teachers as they have demonstrated our Christian Value for the half term. They are children who make good choices and show a responsible, respectful and safe attitude around school. In our ALWAYS Award Worships we reward the pupils with a special certificate and wristband which will enable them to access some very special privileges chosen by our school council representatives.

These worships are incredibly important events in our school and help to illustrate our school vision of Learning through Faith, Family and Friendship.
